DOCUMENT GUIDE

How to clarify a document attestation route

A practical guide to preparing the information for your enquiry.

How to clarify a document attestation route

To understand a document’s route, begin with where it was issued and where it will be used. Then review its existing attestations and the recipient’s requirements.

Origin and destination

A UAE-issued document and one issued overseas may follow different steps. The document’s name alone is not enough to determine the route.

  • Issuing country and issuing entity.
  • Destination country and receiving entity.
  • Purpose of submission and any accompanying instructions.

What is already available?

Review previous stamps or attestations and the available document format. Knowing whether it is on paper or digital helps clarify the appropriate service.

  • Is it an original, digital document or copy?
  • Is there an associated translation?
  • Has another entity already attested it?
  • Has the recipient requested a specific additional step?

Attestation and translation serve different purposes

Attestation concerns signatures and seals through the relevant service; translation addresses the language of the content. A recipient may require both, depending on the case. The route is confirmed after review.

Avoid relying on general promises

Do not assume a fixed fee or timing because someone else completed a similar document. Ask about the scope, entities, remaining steps and handover arrangements for your own case.
